Many years ago, men and women alike really took pride in their appearance. People would dress up in their best ball gowns and tailored suits to visit the theatre, go for a tea dance or even just to spend time with family.
During the 1940’s, the nation was also at war. Motto’s like “Keep calm and carry on”, and “Make do and mend” were popular during a time of national struggle but also strong national pride.
This series of photographs celebrates these ways of life
and the communities still keeping them alive today.
